Winning Odds: Ghana vs Germany Preview and Betting Odds
Germany facing tough test against Ghana
Second place Germany will find themselves in an unfamiliar position when they meet Group D leaders Ghana at Soccer City in Johannesburg on June 23 as they might have to win to make it into the next round. The group is tight as Ghana leads it with four points, followed by Germany and Serbia with three each and Australia at one.

The Germans started the tournament on fire with a 4-0 beating of Australia, but then ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 score to Serbia. Ghana can win the group with a win after beating Serbia 1-0 and a 1-1 draw with Australia. They will also guarantee themselves a spot in the next round with a draw. A loss for Ghana however could be fatal, especially if Serbia beats Australia, but they can still advance with a loss if Serbia and Australia plays to a draw. Both of Ghana’s opponents had a player ejected in each game and their two goals came on penalty kicks.
This contest will showcase Kevin-Prince Boateng of Ghana against his half brother Jerome Boateng of Germany. It was a tackle by Ghana’s Boateng on German captain Michael Ballack in the English FA Cup that knocked him out of the World Cup. However, Germany won’t have time to target Boateng for any type of retribution as they’ll be concentrating solely on winning the game.
German general manger Oliver Bierhoff made this clear when he stated the team is playing Ghana, not Boateng and their feelings toward the player need to be set aside for 90 minutes. Germany has never been knocked out of a World Cup in the first round and a draw might not even save them this time. One point will be enough though if Serbia loses or draws against Australia as the Germans have a goal difference of plus three while Serbia’s is even. Striker Miroslav Klose will miss the game due to his red card against Serbia and he could be replaced by the Brazilian-born striker Cacau or Mario Gomez.
Germany manager Joachim Loew said his squad is under a lot of pressure, but should be able to handle it and is confident they’ll make the next round. To do so, he’ll need good games out of striker Lukas Podolski, defender Philpp Lahm, and midfielders Thomas Mueller, and Mesut Oezil.
Ghana had to play without central defenders Isaac Vorsah and John Mensah against Australia, but the both might be back for this match. Their replacements, Jonathan Mensah and Lee Addy struggled against the Australians. Ghana will have to get some scoring in open play if they hope to win and will be looking for forward Asamoah Gyan to lead the attack. Ghana has created enough chances in their first two games, but hasn’t been able to capitalize on them.
Germany v Ghana Odds and Predictions
The two teams have only met once before, with Germany scoring six second-half goals in their 6-1 win back in a friendly in 1993. The Germans always seem to find a way to win when they have to, and they should take this game 2-1 to get into the next round.
Ladbrokes has sixth-ranked Germany listed as favourites to win the game with odds of 53/100, while 32nd-ranked Ghana is listed at 6/1. The odds of the game ending in a draw are posted at 3/1.
