Manchester United's talking point

On the verge of his 71st birthday, Sir Alex Ferguson is bounding about on the touchline like a 20-year-old.

The United managers enduring energy has confounded logic for too many years to mention.

And the sight of him frantically urging United on from the sidelines in recent weeks has only served to prove there is plenty of fight left in the feisty Glaswegian.

Whether it be his jubilant celebrations as Robin van Persies free kick silenced noisy neighbours City or his outbursts over the festive period, Ferguson is the very embodiment of his team.

The embodiment of a club that will bear his indelible stamp long after he eventually retires.

Why do United produce so many escape acts like the one witnessed against Newcastle on Boxing Day? Because of the sheer will to win that courses through their managers veins.

Ferguson relishes every single goal and point as if they were his last.

Its why he celebrated victory over City at the start of the month as if hed won the title.

Its why he reacted so angrily when Swanseas Ashley Williams blasted a ball against Van Persies head in the 1-1 draw at the Liberty Stadium last Sunday.

And its why he furiously remonstrated with the match officials when he believed Jonny Evans own goal against Newcastle should have been ruled offside during that Boxing Day thriller.

Whatever the rights or wrongs of Fergies recent outbursts, they are proof-positive that his fire shows no sign of diminishing.

While many septuagenarians are happy to fill their time with hobbies, Ferguson needs more than that.

True hes a fan of golf, Westerns, red wine but he requires an obsession to fuel the fire.

His latest began when City became awash with Abu Dhabi riches back in the summer of 2008.

And it reached a pinnacle when Sergio Agueros dramatic injury- time strike denied United a 20th Premier League title last! May.

If anyone questioned whether the Red knight had any more fights left in him his answer has been emphatic.
