Phil Jones in festive spirit

United's Phil Jones
Phil Jones insists United are in the perfect position ahead the hectic Christmas schedule.

United face four games in 10 days starting with their visit to Swansea on Sunday.

Newcastle, West Brom and Wigan also lie in wait over the Christmas period and former Blackburn defender Jones believes United, who lead the Premier League by six points, are perfectly placed going into the games.

Were in a fantastic position and its exactly where you want to be at this stage, said the 20-year-old.

Last season was my first at United and I experienced something Ive never experienced before. You learn that its never, ever over.

Its such a difficult league and its the same old cliches, but we have to concentrate on the game in front of us and keep our feet on the ground, not getting carried away.

There are a lot of games coming up and I just want to be involved as much as I can be.

The manager talks a lot about the Christmas period being one of the toughest spells of the Premier League season and that to be in a strong position at the turn of the year is vital.

Weve put ourselves in a good position and we need to keep it going. We have to make the most of the position were in.

Jones is back in the team after injury disrupted the early part of his season.

In only his second season at Old Trafford, he is being talked about as a future captain.

But the England international is more worried about winning his first Premier League winners medal.

It would be a massive achievement for me as a footballer to captain Manchester United and it would be a great honour, said Jones.

Im honest with myself and I know Ive got a lot of hard work ahead of me in my career to become the player I want to be. So Ill focus on that for now.

It sounds great and its nice if people think that one day that might happen, but there is a long way to go before I think I can even consider it as a possibility.

Like the fans, we really want to win that trophy back.

Just because we want to do it and we believe we can do it doesnt mean we will do it though.

There is a long way to go and were not getting carried away.
