Swedens Lisa Dahlkvist scores off clearance from distance, but US reach Algarve Cup final

The US will play in the Algarve Cup final against reigning champions Germany after earning a 1-1 draw against former coach Pia Sundhage and Sweden in their final group-stage match. With the US down to third-choice keeper Ashlyn Harris, who made her first senior international start after replacing the injured Jill Loyden in the US's 5-0 win against China (who in turn was replacing an injured Hope Solo), Sweden managed to score the first goal allowed by the Olympic gold medal winners in the group stage.

In just the fourth minute, Harris attempted a clearance at the edge of the box as Sweden captain Lotta Schelin got around the last defender, but the ball went to Lisa Dahlkvist just in front of the center circle and she immediately fired an excellent strike past the diving keeper. The US eventually equalized with an Alex Morgan header off a corner kick in the 56th minute.

Before Germany beat Japan 4-3 in last year's final, the US had appeared in nine consecutive finals and won seven of them. Now the US will be looking to win their first bit of silverware under new manager Tom Sermanni.
