Arsenal chairman decides Kroenke isnt so stupid and awful after all
Back in 2007, when word of American sports team collector Stan Kroenke making a takeover bid at Arsenal first grabbed headlines, club chairman Peter Hill-Wood made his feelings on the matter quite clear. Said Arsenal's Mr. Magoo (via the Telegraph):
"We don't need his money and don't need his sort. He knows sweet FA about our football."
Since then Kroenke and his pornstache have steadily increased their stake in Arsenal, and now, a $1.2 billion full takeover is in the works. So what does Hill-Wood think of Kroenke now that he's the boss?
"The board of directors and I consider it a key responsibility to protect the ethos and spirit of the club.
"Mr Kroenke, although relatively new to Arsenal, has shown himself to be a man who values and respects the history and traditions of this very special club that we cherish. We are confident that he will be a safe custodian of its future."
What a great lesson in why you should never judge a book by its cover. Especially when that book is ! a billio naire that can buy your football club whether you like it or not.
