Nanis on a mission

Portugal's player Nani
Nani may be looking to prove his critics wrong once and for all and show hes good enough to be a permanent fixture in Uniteds first team but the signs are not looking good for the Portuguese winger.

Hes slipped dramatically down the pecking order at Old Trafford with Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Danny Welbeck, Robin van Persie and even Wayne Rooney or Ryan Giggs in an emergency capable of playing wide.

Nanis current deal at United runs out in two years and his representatives have been looking to negotiate him a new package.

But M.E.N. Sport understands nothing has been agreed for the 25-year-old, who failed to impress in the Reds opening Premier League fixture at Everton, where he was substituted.

There have been unconfirmed reports that Nani was offered by United to Zenit St Petersburg and the Russian club say he priced himself out of any prospect of a switch by demanding 200,000 a week more than double his current United salary.

Sir Alex Ferguson had, it is claimed, wanted to claw back some of the 24m he paid Arsenal for van Persie which would enable him to go back in for one of his top targets, Evertons England full-back Leighto! n Baines , in the January transfer window.
