David Beckham scores from distance and with yet another free kick for brace against Portland

David Beckham scored two lovely goals within five minutes of each other in the LA Galaxy's 5-3 win over Portland. The goalfest started in the third minute when Kris Boyd gave Portland a 1-0 head start, but Beckham equalized in the 19th minute with a perfectly placed shot from 35 yards out.

It was reminiscent of another goal Beckham scored against Portland back in April in that he was given far too much open space and placed the ball in the back of the net with aplomb. This time, however, he reacted by striking a pose with his arms above his head before giving teammate Robbie Keane (who went on to score twice himself) a satisfied and slightly surprised "not bad" expression.

Just five minutes later, Beckham was again given an opportunity opponents should fear when he lined up a free kick in what we'll call the David Beckham zone. He then produced the kind of curling masterpiece that has been vexing goalkeepers for decades to put the Galaxy up 2-1. And with the help of Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, LA went on to score twice more before the half-hour mark.

Beckham has now scored five times this season -- the most he's scored since his first full season with LA in 2008 -- andhas set up six goals for his teammates. Three of those goals he's scored have come in the two matches since he wasdevastatedto learn that he won't be a part of Team GB at the Olympics.
