Red faced - but Michael Carrick is confident Manchester United can bounce back from Basle blow

Shell-shocked Manchester United insist they can storm back from their Basle nightmare.

The Reds have turned what should have been an easy passage through Group C into a minefield.

After drawing their opening match with Benfica, the Redson Tuesdaynight endured a 3-3 shocker against the Swiss champions at Old Trafford with only a last-gasp equaliser from Ashley Young sparing them from their first home defeat in 17 months.

United travel to Bucharest to play Otelul Galati next month before the minnows visit Old Trafford in November.

And six points from those two games have become vital after last seasons Champions League finalists amazingly let slip a 2-0 lead.

It was a bit of a shock after being 2-0 up, said midfielderMichael Carrick. There are no excuses we threw it away. I am sure it is a one-off and we will bounce back.

We expect ourselves to keep going and we always believe we can score if we get a chance and fortunately Ashley Young put it away late on.

Two points is not ideal but it is not the end of the world. We were looking for six points against Otelul Galati anyway. We are confident we can pull through.

Will United bounce back? Have your say.
