David Sadler: Manchester City arent going anywhere

Uniteds 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal in August
The bad news for United is that City arent going anywhere.

Regardless of what happens on Sunday, the noisy neighbours, as Sir Alex Ferguson calls them, are going to keep on making a racket.

City have bought an excellent team and have the cash to carry on spending.

I emphasise the word bought as thats what theyve done. Im not criticising it, but it is a fact and theyve shown that a manager with a bit of nous and a bottomless pit of money can put together a side capable of winning the League.

They havent won it yet but it does look like they will be crowned champions on Sunday and the job for Ferguson and United is to rebuild and respond in kind.

Sometimes you have to give credit to opposition and City have had an excellent season.

The thought that they can go out and buy another host of superstars is a frightening one.

But Ferguson has faced these challenges before and I expect his young side to be all the better for their experiences this season and the fact that he has run City so close in a year that has seen many changes at Old Trafford is a great credit to the manager.

I dont know how close Fergie honestly thought his side would come to the title this year after losing so many experienced players last summer and injecting youth into his squad.
From a personal point of view, I feared the balance wasnt quite right between youth and experience.

I expected an up-and-down campaign and, in many ways, that has proved to be the case.

For the 8-2 win against Arsenal, there was also the 6-1 defeat to City.

The magnificent comeback to draw 3-3 at Chelsea was countered by the squandering of two points in the 4-4 at home to Everton.

Manchester United veto British Olympic team call-up for senior players - except Ryan Giggs

United might end up only losing the title on goal difference but theyve also disappointed in Europe.

Additions need to be made in the summer even if QPR do United a favour and pull off the unthinkable at the Etihad.

The Reds simply cannot continue to rely on Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

Both are fantastic players. Scholes return and influence since stepping out of retirement has been incredible but it cannot go on.

I can see possibly two midfielders arriving, along with a full-back and another striker.

Wayne Rooney has had another superb season but United rely on his goals so much. Danny Welbeck will be a terrific player but injuries mean we havent seen enough of him, while Javier Hernandez has suffered a touch of second- season syndrome.

Where Ferguson will find players good enough to make a difference, who knows?

But it is something they must do if they are to keep the blue tide at bay.

Prediction: Sunderland 0 United 1
Key Man: Wayne Rooney
Champions: City
