Patrice Evra: If not Manchester United, then Real Madrid

TOP PERFORMER: Patrice Evra
Patrice Evra wants to stay at Manchester United and will discuss a new contract with the Reds in the summer.

The French left-back has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with long-time Reds target Karim Benzema part of a possible exchange deal.

Although Evra admits a move to the Bernabeu would be acceptable, he reveals he would only go if United boss Sir Alex Ferguson doesnt want him anymore.

I am very happy in Manchester and I have not thought about leaving, the 29-year-old said. But if Alex (Ferguson) wants to use me to buy another player, then Real Madrid is the best alternative to United.

If that option comes and United are positive about the operation, then I would accept with pleasure.

I have a contract until 2012 with United and if people think Im upset about being here, they are wrong.

Evras agent has confirmed that so far only Champions League holders Inter Milan have made moves.

There has been interest, and I have read about Real Madrid but really the only official interest was from Inter Milan last summer. We had a long chat with Sir Alex Ferguson and it was decided he would stay in Manchester, said Federico Pastorelo.

His contract runs out in the summer of 2012 and now he is concentrating and focused on this season.

We will sit down in the summer with United and decide whether he will extend his contract or move on.

Should United keep Evra? Have your say.
