Former Arsenal star Lauren reunited with stolen Rolex after 6 years
If you enjoy heartwarming tales of rich men recovering ostentatious material possessions that they didn't really need, this one's for you.
While playing for Arsenal, Cameroonian defender Lauren had his 6,000 Rolex Daytona watch stolen during a burglary. After six years without his finely crafted chronograph, the retired star almost certainly assumed he would never see it again. However, following a raid earlier this year in which over 500,000 of stolen goods were recovered, police have been able to trace the purloined timepiece to its owner using burglary records. The BBC reports:
Police realised one of [the watches] recovered belonged to the retired Premier League player when inquiries with Rolex revealed information about how his watch was stolen.
With the help of Arsenal FC, officers were able to trace the former player to reunite him with his property.
Det Sgt Richard George, of the Tower Hamlets Crime Squad, said: "We are delighted to be able to reunite Lauren with his watch."
Police haven't released any information about the thief, but Lauren has his suspicions.
