Paul McGuinnesss latest batch of young Manchester United hopefuls began their defence of the FA Youth Cup in convincing style at Moss Lane on Friday night.

The Reds rarely looked troubled throughout a wet and windy evening and once Tom Lawrence had blasted them into an 18th-minute lead they always looked likely to book their place in the fourth round.

Jack Barmby added the second goal before half-time and then Torquays Scott Beattie scored an own goal to put the Reds 3-0 up.

Gyliano van Velzen completed the scoring eight minutes from time, tapping home after nice work from Donald Love and Barmby.
