Lovely Dempsey goal gives Klinsmann his first U.S. win
A smooth bit of skill in the box and a shot perfectly pinned to the top corner by Clint Dempsey gave the U.S. a 1-0 win in their rain-soaked friendly against Honduras. It took a few matches, but Juergen Klinsmann finally got his first victory for the U.S. even though it should've been by a wider margin.
Both sides had a large number of close calls thanks in part to a good performance from Tim Howard, Brek Shea slipping as he attempted to shoot on an open net from only a few feet out (3:00 into the video) and Oguchi Onyewu somehow putting a rebound over the bar from just as close (3:40). Dempsey also had a headed goal questionably disallowed (4:15) before the final whistle.
Despite all that, the goal Dempsey was credited for was enough for the overdue win and definitely worthy of the imaginary beverage he opened with his boot and chugged down in his celebration.
