Police called to West Ham party as players fight with fans

On Sunday, West Ham sealed their relegation and sacked Avram Grant before he could even get back to the dressing room. How could they possibly top a day that horrible? By squabbling with fans at their 275-a-ticket party with all the players, owners and club sponsors present.

That's what happened at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on Monday night, but how it kicked off takes it to another level of ridiculousness. An eyewitness told The Sun that a fan asked striker Demba Ba for his autograph between courses of the pricey meal and then this happened:

The player replied, "I'm too tired" and the fan snapped, "I pay 60,000 a year for a box at this s*** club, I'm not going anywhere." [...]

"That triggered the mayhem. The fan went berserk, shouting and screaming at Ba, hurling all sorts of racist insults at him - and Ba looked like he was about to lash out when Danny Gabbidon separated them.

"A table was tipped over and security men raced into the room - it was chaos. Within moments, police were all over the place."

He said he was too tired? Too tired to write "Ba"?! Still, as infuriatingly bad of an excuse as that is, it's not reason for racist insults. That's just disgusting. Also, if he's too tired to write "Ba" he clearly has some kind of crippling medical condition and yelling at someone with a medical condition never helps anything. Trust me.

But by the time the police ar! rived, e verything apparently calmed down (via the BBC):

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said no arrests were made.

He said: "We were called at 2115 BST to reports of a disturbance at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane.

"Officers attended. There were no offences alleged and no arrests."

Well that's nice. Even though fans allegedly kung-fu kicked a vintage vase and players escaped through the hotel's back entrances.

All I can say is that none of this would've happened if Avram Grant was still in charge, though. He would have definitely bored everyone to the point of being physically incapable of violence.
