Hajduk Split fans celebrate centenary by engulfing city in flares

Hajduk Split celebrated their 100th anniversary on Sunday and their pyromaniac supporters honored the occasion by making it look like their city was on fire. At midnight on February 13, Hajduk supporters -- known as Torcida, Europe's oldest fan group -- did their best to make Split, Croatia and several neighboring towns visible from space with thousands of flares.

In a town called Dubrovnik, the local Torcida formed an amazing flare border the night before that looked like quite the chain reaction of spectacular lights, unity and third degree burns. Have a look at the video of it...

On Sunday, Hajduk played a friendly against Slavia Prague and followed it up with a special concert. Both events included more flares as fans celebrated a club that won nine Yugoslav First League titles, six Prva HNL titles, and has reached the Champions League quarterfinals three times. Obviously it was not only a great day for Hajduk Split and their fans, but anyone who sells flares in Croatia.
