Ronaldo wants to play one last match for the Brazilian national team
The tears have flowed and Ronaldo has admitted that he lost to his troubled body, but he still has one last thing he wants to do before he hangs up his boots for good. And no, it's not to "steal the Champions League trophy so he can use it pummel his critics who hold the fact that he never won one against him." He's far too nice for that.
In an interview with Globo TV (via the AFP) Ronaldo stated his objective:
"I want to make it a great party. I will go and see (Brazilian Football Confederation) president Ricardo Teixeira to make it a match for the Brazilian national side," said the 34-year-old.
"I want to bring together players who were with me and appear in front of a public who loved and helped me.
"These people deserve a send off," said the former Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and AC Milan striker. [...]
The forward, nicknamed 'el Fenomeno' or simply 'R9', said he hoped he could get a final appearance for Brazil organised within the next few months after the Folha de Sao Paulo daily reported that Teixeira was intending to contact him over a possible farewell match.
This sounds fantastic. A "great party" by Ronaldo standards is pretty much guaranteed to be the craziest, most awesome testimonial match in the history of the world. I'm thinking he will pitch it to Teixeira as Carnival meets the circus meets the Harlem Globetrotters meets New Year's Eve in Key! West. A nd everyone will have to have their hair cut like Ronaldo did at the 2002 World Cup. Hyperbole aside, there's a very good chance this will be the greatest football match ever played.
